We're Open During Ironman on May 7 & Road Closure Info
Is Dig supporting Ironman? Ironman World Championships in Hawaii for 2021 were postponed. St. George was awarded the opportunity to host those athletes on our turf in 2022. Dig crew members have been supporting open water triathlons and other aquatic events in six western states for almost 15 years, having coordinated and contributed thousands of man-hours to benefit these dedicated athletes. We simultaneously help our county Search And Rescue Dive Team raise funds for their equipment and training, as they are typically paid to spearhead the water support effort. Some of our crew will, once again, be at the Ironman...
Blown Away by the Wind
It's what we do. Wind paddling. Very few paddlers enjoy paddling in the wind. An occasional downwind paddle can be a lot of fun, but paddling upwind is a tough workout and can be darned near impossible and dangerous for beginner paddlers. Here are some tips for handling the wind here in Hurricane, Utah. First, know before you go. A lot of lake-lovers out there just check the temperature and precipitation in the forecast. But knowing how strong the wind is forecast to be is just as critical in preparing for a great time at the lake. I...
We Were Hacked.
To pieces. If you saw an advertisement on Facebook, or possibly Instagram, sponsored by our Dig Paddlesports page, and it was for a $35 or so LED/globe/drone/sphere kids' toy, then you saw the result of a scam. Our Facebook account was hacked (we think in mid-November, '21), and $1500 drained from our advertising account. Facebook (or one of their algorithmic decision-makers) locked us out of the account, but didn't mind allowing the scam ad to run for weeks. The ad was shown to us several times from good customers that have become great friends over the years. Each instance of...
Event Report: ADR - Another Dam Race 2021
Dam it. Twice! Between the Parker Dam and Headgate Dam is a calm section of the Colorado River, lined with state parks, campsites, RV resorts, short-term rentals, groomed sand beaches, restaurants, the famed (or infamous) bars of Parker Strip, Bluewater Casino hotel and marina, and the Venice-like canals of the Moovalya Keys. Toward the base of the deepest dam structure in the world - not to be confused with the deepest damned structure in the world - the Parker Dam, is the quiet of River Lodge Resort, where ADR has staged its race start since its inception over ten years...
Another Dam race 2021 race report
What a Party! We gathered some of our favorite people and drove south to Parker Dam Arizona near Lake Havasu to participate in "Another Dam Race". It was well worth the drive. Just a bunch of clowns getting psyched up to hit the water. The weather was perfect 80 degrees and a very slight breeze to start the race. The race began with a polynesian style dedication, haka, song and blessing over the event. After which participants began piling into the river to start the race. Wave after wave of Outrigger canoes started the race off followed by kayakers and...
